International Art Camp " Durostorum - Terasele Dunarii" - First Edition

Within the period of 1 to 8 August 2008, on the sunny border of the Blue Danube at Ostrov, a small locality in the South-West of Constanta District, took place the First Edition of the International Art Camp "Durostorum - Terasele Dunarii", organised by "Sf. Miron" Foundation, Bucharest, with the sponsorship of the commercial society Ostrovit SA and the support of several museums from the country, like those in Calarasi, Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Galati and Targoviste. The society Ostrovit SA put at artists' disposal accommodation, food, the working spaces and all the necessary materials and tools for their work. Also, the participants were invited to visit Ostrov Archeological Site, Dervent Monastery and Ostrovit Wine Cellars.

The International Art Camp was attended by artists from Romania, Bulgaria and France, among them students and recent graduates of fine arts (Maria Osiac, Adela Maria-Git, Elena Mariana Dinu), as well as artistes that already won their reputation as Diana Braescu, Elena Velikova, Valentina Ciobanu, Sorina Fado Vadeanu, Petra Serbanescu, Ion Titoiu, Nicu Stefan Vladut, Doru Dragusin, Grigore Patrichi Smulti, Alexandru Paraschiv, Roman Kissiof, Valeriu Armeanu and others.

The idea of organising this International Art Camp belonged to Mrs Oana Belu, that had the main role in the preparation of this first edition under the best auspices. As a result, her determining contribution to the succes of this first meeting of plastic artists in Ostrov generous landscape was promptly recognised and priced by Paneuropa Foundation, which awarded her a "Diploma of Excellence" "for her prestigious activity in encouraging, sustaing and promoting the authentic artistic creation and cultural activities", especially as that takes place in a period when the public is under a continuous aggression, through all written and audiovisual means, by a so-called art, exacerbating sex, obscenity and vulgarity.
