The XII Edition of the Romanian Spirituality Congress, Alba Iulia, December 2-3, 2008

December 1, 2008 - Almost 250 members of the Romanian Diaspora are waited for in Alba Iulia , the "Town of the Great Union", to take part in the manifestations organized this year to celebrate the National Day of Romania, on the First of December, and to attend the XII edition of the Romanian Spirituality Congress, on the Second and Third of December. The Municipality of Alba Iulia will host, for the seventh consecutive year the meeting of the Romanian Diaspora. This time, the Congress will take place after the First of December, i.e. on the second and third of December, and not like in the previous years, in the last two days of November.

Among the almost 250 participants, there will be Romanians from countries like South Africa, Australia, Brazil or Turkey, but the most important delegations will come from the Republic of Moldova and from Ukraine. Priests, writers, art critics, journalists, businessmen and politicians will be among those expected to attend the most important meeting of the Romanians abroad, organized with the support of Alba County Council, Prefect Office and the Mayorship of Alba Iulia. The participants will meet, in the evening of the 30th of November, the Patriarch of Romania, His Beatitude Daniel, at the Archbishop's Palace in Alba Iulia.

On the First of December, the representatives of the Romanian communities from diaspora will attend the manifestations celebrating the National Day of Romania and the accomplishment of 90 years since the Great Union of 1918. The Congress proceedings will take place on Thursday, December 2 and Wednesday, December 3, at the Trade-Unions Palace of Culture, under the slogan "Alba Iulia, capital of the Great Union and of the Romanian's unity". The participants will debate and approve documents concerning the relations between the Romanians abroad and their homeland and different prizes and honorary distinctions will be granted.

Organised in collaboration with the Romanian Academy and the University "1 December 1918" Alba Iulia, the Congress will work in plenum and four sections, i.e. "90 years since the accomplishement of the Great Union", "History and Faith - basis and support of Romanians'unity", "Language and culture after 500 years since the first prints on the Romanian territory" and "Present problems of the Romanian communities abroad".
